Base of Fall Creek Falls Trail
Length: 0.8 miles
The Base of Fall Creek Falls Trail is steep and
challenging, but definitely worth the hike.
Beginning to the left of the main Fall Creek Falls
Overlook, the trail is only 0.4 miles each way, but
the trip back can be difficult, as it is very steep
and rocky.

Soon after beginning the trail, a nice Fall Creek
Falls overlook is to your right.  This is a great
view of the Falls, and can be seen easily even if
you don't hike the rest of the trail.

As you descend down the trail, a series of
switchbacks takes you down into Fall Creek Falls
Gulf.  These have handrails on one side, which
come in handy while walking on the loose rocks.
Although tempting, please do not stray from the
path and never shortcut the switchbacks.

The views along the trail are quite beautiful.  The
ancient forest, the sound of water, stream views,
and magnificent boulders highlight the trip.
Noticeable changes in temperature are evident
as you descend the trail.

At the bottom of the trail, you can enjoy the view
of Fall Creek Falls and the surrounding Gulf.  The
end of the trail is windy and misty from the roaring
Falls, and you can explore the area around the
base of the Falls.  Please pay attention to any
signs that you see.

Take your time on the way back, and enjoy the
trail.  Benches and rocks are available for taking a
break as you hike the steep trail back.
